JELLY BEANS
I keep a pocket full of jelly beans
So that they’re on me at all times
I’ve got red, blue, green, pink and purple too
The yellow ones I keep to the side

So came that fateful day
I’m just a doctor working away
I had a patient coming in for a checkup then
Ask for a jelly bean for being so brave
I know this may be selfish
But don’t look at me that way
They’re not for you
They’re for me
You can have one
If you return it to me by the end of the day
I dread the thought of someone eating my jelly beans
That’s why I never leave home without them
The lint from my pockets adds an extra hint of flavour
On the occasion I’ll eat one

So later on through the day
I asked my tailor what she’d need me to pay
To add a zipper and a lock to make my pockets secure
She said three jelly bean’s the cost for today
I know you won’t want to hear this
But I just can’t pay you that way
They’re not for you
They’re for me
I can sign you a cheque for
Two green jelly beans
That’s the best offer you’ll get from me
But do know you’ll
Have to return them to me by the end of the day
Now the sun has met the horizon
And there’s no jelly beans to be seen
Someone has snuck into my unit
They appear to be staring at me
From the dark with my jelly beans
I grab the rolling pin and swing
As hard as I can
Knocking out all of their teeth
The room lit up
To an audience for my surprise party
